Jim’s Kites

I am a kite buyer, not a kite maker, so if you want information on building your own kite, this is not the place to find it.  For that, try www.kitebuilder.com among others.

If you have an interest in Kite Aerial Photography (KAP), which involves lifting a camera with a kite, all you need is at  http://arch.ced.berkeley.edu/kap/discuss/

And whatever your kiting interest, join the American Kitefliers Association to get four free glossy magazines each year, contact with other fliers, lots of information, and a 10% discount when buying from most American dealers, all for a low subscription.  Overseas members are welcome.

If you are in New Zealand, check out the New Zealand Kitefliers Association  for news about kiting and contact with other fliers, as well as other useful information and links.

And a young lady, Brittany, in America, just found a great source with links to lots of sites dealing with kites and kite history. http://www.cheapflights.com/promos/unique-flights-kite-flying is basically a site offering cheap airline deals, but this page of links is a great service to those with an interest in kiting.

Another young lady, Caroline, also from America, has found a useful source at http://www.air-n-water.com/articles-wbp-air-flow-kites.htm . This has many links on different aspects of kites and kiting, so it’s well worth a look.

2016 Kite Day

at New Brighton, Christchurch, January 30, 2016

Despite largely grey skies and light, fickle wind, several thousand people turned up during the day, and many of them flew their own kites - the real aim of the event, and much more fun than just watching.  See my (not very good)video here: https://youtu.be/8Zn5NdLwuEg

NEW: Buying kites from China - see the advice on my “Buying” page before you venture into this.

Kite Day 2017

New Brighton beach,

Christchurch, NZ

Sunday January 29 2017

A slight disappointment because of the wind, but fun was had by all.

And for a glimpse of how it should have been: https://youtu.be/IKuX6P9NJyY

Coming very soon!  This site will be revised, brought up to date, and made mobile-friendly.  Until then, see my latest kites on my YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/user/JimsKitesNZ .  Now well over 900 kite videos, covering many, many different kites, not all of them mine.
